The Setup
You upload your case docs via a simple drag & drop or import them via your case management platform (we’re currently integrated with SmartAdvocate, MyCase, and Case Peer).
Second Chair automatically creates a summary and key takeaways for each uploaded document.
Your documents are fully encrypted, siloed at the case level, and stored in a private, secure environment specific to your firm. Second Chair does not train on your documents.
Once your docs are in Second Chair, you can prepare for taking or defending a deposition by clicking "New Deposition,” typing in some of your goals for the deposition, and then hitting create.

If you are taking a deposition:

If you are defending a deposition:
Second Chair assumes the role of opposing counsel and comes up with questions and objectives that it thinks opposing counsel will likely ask your client. Second Chair also generates a short and long form client prep doc (which you can send to your client or use to role play a deposition) and also provides you with a short and long form attorney prep doc (in the event you haven’t looked at the case file in a while). Suddenly you look like a hero to your client. And all you had to do was press a button.

Once you’re ready to start a deposition you hit “Start Transcript” on Second Chair. Second Chair then creates a live (searchable) transcript that it compares against your uploaded case documents. As the deposition progresses, Second Chair will, in real time:

How Does The Transcript Work?
What’s the best way to use Second Chair?
Regardless of whether you are doing an in-person or a virtual depo, we recommend that you stay locked in on your deposition (i.e. don’t look at Second Chair) and then review Second Chair on break. This ensures that you (i) don’t get distracted by Second Chair during the depo, and (ii) still get the benefits of Second Chair’s in-depo insights during the deposition.
If you are doing an in-person deposition:
You pull up your laptop, login to Second Chair on your browser , and then hit start transcript. Second Chair will hear you speaking and hear the responses of the people in the room through your laptop speakers. You don’t need any special microphones. If you can hear the person clearly your laptop can too.
If you are doing a virtual deposition:
Second Chair has several audio options for virtual (Zoom) depositions, varying in sound quality, configuration complexity, and ease of use. After you've signed up we'll provide an easy, step-by-step guide to get your audio set up. Importantly, Second Chair does not appear as a participant in your Zoom call. Summaries and Transcripts
After each deposition you’ll (i) be able to access and download your deposition transcript (no more paying for rushed roughs from a court reporter!), and (ii) have access to a downloadable summary of the deposition (including key takeaways suggested next steps).
You’ll also be able to go into a deposition workbook whenever you want to review the transcript, any inconsistencies that came up, etc. This makes deposition review and trial prep really easy. No more sifting through notes. No more tracking down documents. Everything is organized, summarized, and accessible.
How Does Pricing Work?
How much does it cost?
Our pricing ranges from $250 - $289 per deposition. We sell depositions in annual packs (25, 50, 100, 250, 500, etc.). If you do fewer than 25 depos per year please reach out to us at kade@second-chair.ai
How does billing work?
We multiply your price per deposition (it gets cheaper as you buy more depos) by your chosen pack size and then divide by 12 to arrive at your monthly subscription cost.
Passthrough Cost
After each time you use us in a depo we’ll automatically send you a receipt outlining the date of the depo, the applicable case, and the price of that deposition. You can then take that receipt and (if you so choose) pass it through as a case expense. This means that Second Chair can be free to you.
What if I Sign Up and Decide I Don’t Like It?
No worries. If you don’t love us after you’ve used Second Chair in two depositions you can cancel your subscription and we’ll refund you your money no questions asked. We want this to be a risk-free proposition for you and we put our money where our mouth is. And we only want to work with customers that want to work with us.

What Happens if I Blow Through my Annual Allotment in Less Than a Year?
No problem. We’ll get in touch with you and can upgrade you to the next annual deposition tier.
What Happens if I Don’t Use My Annual Allotment in a Year?
You can roll over 10% of your deposition pack from one year to the next.
Does My Contract Auto-Renew?
Yes. But you can cancel any time with at least 30 days’ notice prior to your renewal date.
